V prvej kategórii sú okuliare ktoré prepustia okolo 40 – 80% žiarenia a sú to skôr mestské okuliare ktoré môžete nosiť počas mesiacov kedy slnko nie je také intenzívne. Kategória 2 zahŕňa okuliare so stredne tmavým filtrom. Tie sú vhodné na každodenné nosenie a to aj počas leta kedy sú slnečné lúče pomerne ostré. 8 – 18 % svetla prepustia okuliare s tmavým filtrom ktoré sú v kategórii číslo 3. Po okuliaroch s týmto filtrom by ste mali siahnuť v prípade že ich chcete nosiť celý deň a navyše ho plánujete stráviť pri vode. Najvyššiu ochranu vášmu zraku poskytnú okuliare štvrtej kategórie ktoré majú tmavý filter. Toto sú okuliare vhodné na pobyt pri mori či na turistiku do hôr. V oboch prípadoch chránia váš zrak pred silným slnečným žiarením. Majú však tendenciu skresľovať farby, preto by ste ich nemali používať pri šoférovaní.---

Vy sa možno v prvom rade zameriavate na farbu rámu, no hneď potom zohľadnite aj farbu samotných skiel na vašich okuliaroch.
